Chris Marco
School of Criminal Justice
Marrying the Real World with the Classroom
Stonecliffe College Online instructor Chris Marco has come a long way since being glued to C.H.i.P.s. as a kid. His first internship in criminal justice, in probation and parole during his senior year at Philadelphia's Temple University, had him managing 150 cases by the second day. "It was terrifying to answer the phone the first time and say 'probation' with some authority. But it turned out to be a great experience," he says.
After getting his master's degree (while working full-time), Marco was offered two jobs in one day: as a U.S. Probation Officer in Portland, Maine, and the same position in San Diego, Calif. "It really wasn't a hard decision: freezing cold or sun. And I wanted to see if the C.H.i.P.s. officers really existed."

Keeping criminal justice all in the family
Marco thought the best thing about moving to San Diego would be his new job. Little did he expect to find a wife. Chris married fellow parole officer Nina in early April. Following the wedding, they enjoyed a two-week honeymoon cruise from San Diego to Alaska.
Now settled back into regular life, newlyweds Chris and Nina enjoy long walks on the beach, watching the ocean waves while sipping wine, and watching movies and, of course, crime shows together.
Since moving to San Diego, Marco has not only discovered that C.H.i.P.s. officers are indeed real, but also found his dream job. "No two days, even two hours, are the same. You never know what's going to happen. It's great. I shuffle some paper but am in the field, too."
Stonecliffe College Online instructors are real people who lead interesting, active lives. Their professional experience, personal interests and overwhelming sense of dedication to their students combine to make them people worth knowing and teachers worthy of your consideration.
Sharing war stories
Marco is happiest sharing his "war stories" and knowledge with Stonecliffe College Online students in Introduction to Criminal Justice, the first criminal justice class new students take. "I'm always impressed by my students in these classes. Having gone to school and worked full time myself, I understand how difficult it can be; but these students are truly excited and want to learn. They make teaching just as interesting as working as a parole officer."
