Katurah Jackson
Associate of Science in Business Administration
Thanks to Stonecliffe College Online, an academic division of Colorado Technical University, Katurah Jackson's aspirations are higher than ever.
After graduating high school, Katurah enrolled in a brick and mortar community college, but soon lost interest because it may not have been the right thing at the right time for her. "I was excited about graduating high school and I moved around too fast for the community college. I'm a go-getter and I was disappointed because it seemed like I was moving ahead at a slow pace." Katurah soon dropped out and began working full-time, trying various positions in the hospitality and health care professions, when a new inspiration came into Katurah's life.
Katurah's daughter, two year old Iniyah, inspired her to continue her education. "One day I looked at my daughter and decided that I have to build a better life for us." Continuing her education at a traditional college while working a full-time job and raising her daughter, was too time-consuming and too expensive for Katurah. Stonecliffe College Online seemed to be the solution to that problem. "Stonecliffe College Online is very convenient for me because I can go to classes and still spend time with my daughter. I love it! It is a great experience for me and it has given me new hopes and dreams."
Katurah appreciates that there are no extra out-of-pocket costs through Stonecliffe College Online, which is an important consideration for a single mother. "Stonecliffe is great because I don't have to spend additional money on books, commuting, parking, child care and it doesn't require me to take time off from work."
Katurah also enjoys the online learning experience through Stonecliffe College Online. She is comfortable interacting online with her classmates and instructors. "Students interact with instant messages and emails to help each other with the assignments. I think we can be more open and less embarrassed about asking questions because we do not have to face each other." Katurah feels the Stonecliffe instructors are very responsive and helpful. "When I email the instructors they respond promptly with additional information and helpful tips on completing assignments."
Attending Stonecliffe College Online has helped Katurah in her position as an Administrative Assistant in medical billing at the Atlantic Care Healthplex. The computer programs she regularly uses in her courses through Stonecliffe College Online—such as Microsoft Excel and Power Point—are also used at her workplace. "I had some computer classes before so I knew the basics and an assignment I had in one of my courses taught me new skills I could immediately apply to accounting and payroll at my job."
Katurah feels developing these skills and others through Stonecliffe College Online may lead to a promotion and ultimately, a more lucrative career in the health care profession. "I like to challenge myself and Stonecliffe College Online is a challenge. I'm learning time management skills that may become the key to my success."
Katurah believes that earning an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration through Stonecliffe College Online may be a good stepping stone to achieving her long term goal of earning a Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Health Care Management. "Stonecliffe is a great way to start because I'm becoming familiar with online learning and all my credits will transfer when I continue my education through Colorado Technical University Online." Katurah started her classes through Stonecliffe College Online in February of 2006 and when she reaches her expected graduation date of August 2008, she plans to immediately enroll through Colorado Tech Online.
Katurah highly recommends Stonecliffe College Online to anyone thinking about continuing their education. When a friend from medical billing trade school asked how she likes "that online college," Katurah's recommendation prompted her friend to enroll through Stonecliffe College Online. "She loves it too. She has two children and it's just as convenient for her as it is for me." Katurah has some advice for those considering continuing their education: "If you believe you can achieve."
