Kelly Stehr
Associate of Science in Accounting
Ever since taking an accounting course as an elective in high school, Kelly Stehr has dreamed of working in the field of accounting. Earning an Associate's degree, and preferably a Bachelor's degree, is usually required in order to enter the accounting profession. But anyone who works full-time and has two small children can understand how difficult it can be to attend college. Thanks to Stonecliffe College Online, a division of Colorado Technical University, Kelly's dream is alive and well.
"I want to do more for myself and for my family. I want to set a positive example for my two girls. I have always dreamed of starting an accounting business. I have wanted to continue my education for a long time in order to do so, but I wasn't sure how to balance school with a full-time job and family responsibilities. Although Kelly will not complete her degree program for another year, she already feels continuing her education through Stonecliffe College Online has made a difference in her life. "I feel more knowledgeable and more confident. I have a better understanding of not only the technicalities and procedures of accounting, but also the ethical considerations that came into play in the profession. I wasn't sure where to begin in terms of getting my foot in the door in accounting, but now I have a plan. My short term goal is to excel in my course work, earn my Associate's degree and pursue a bookkeeping or administrative position in order to gain experience in the accounting profession. Meanwhile, I want to continue on with Colorado Tech Online and earn a Bachelor's degree. Ultimately, a position in the accounting field and the possibility of starting an accounting business is well within my reach – thanks to Stonecliffe College Online."
