Associate of Science in Business Administration – Management
What made you decide to continue your education?
I'm on permanent disability. I have some health issues that won't let me go to work, but I need a challenge. I've been out of the business world for a while, but I would like to run my own business. As long as I have a manager, I won't have to be there physically.
I've been thinking about it for a while, and thought that rather than let someone handle my books, I should know how to handle everything myself. The first step would be to get a good education.
When you decided to continue your education, what steps did you take?
I started in community college, and I made it almost through the first semester. I wasn't use to it. The parking was terrible, some of the students were scary, and some of the professors weren't all that approachable. Here, I can get attention, technical assistance, a student advisor, and whatever I need. I don't have to worry about which building to find.
Which degree program are you pursuing and when did you begin your curriculum?
I'm working on an Associate's of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management, and I began in late April, and I finished one course in the middle of May. It's a two year degree program.
Why did you choose Stonecliffe College Online?
I went online and looked at a lot of schools. I spoke with Anita, my Admissions Advisor, and she and I hit it off very well. She was warm and friendly, and I was impressed with her cheerleading spirit. I thought that if I could get accepted at Stonecliffe College Online, that's what I wanted to do. She was excellent and very helpful.
How has your Stonecliffe College Online experience been, so far?
I was somewhat used to working with computers. I already had one at home, so I've been learning as I go. The other students are very helpful, and the orientation is comprehensive, and gives students an idea of where to go for various things.
For my first class, the instructor was very helpful. I enjoyed the live chat sessions. I liked the concept of the knowledge checks, and the discussion board. He would grade it within a couple of days and respond to us. He was very encouraging, and I learned a lot.
What has been your inspiration to obtain your degree?
My mom went back to college when she was 60, and she did really well, so I thought I'd beat her by 8 years. None of my children have gone to college, and I think they should, so I'm trying to be an example for them. If their mother can do it, so can they. I have a lot of reasons to be in school.
Would you suggest Stonecliffe College Online to other potential students?
I would definitely recommend Stonecliffe. I like the online college format because you can move at your own speed. I don't have to worry about traffic and gas money to get back and forth. I like the fast pace, and that it's one class at a time. It makes the whole thing move quicker. Some people get distracted by the college atmosphere, but that doesn't exist in an online environment.
I'm excited about being back in school and talking to people all over the country. I'm really enjoying it!
