Victor H.P. Villarreal, BA, MS, ABD
School of Business, AS in Accounting, AS in Management

Instructor Victor Villarreal is living a lifelong dream by teaching at Stonecliffe College Online, an academic division of Colorado Technical University. "The teachers in my past who put in extra effort to help me understand have always inspired me. They made me realize how powerful and rewarding teaching can be. Becoming like them became a life long dream for me." Villarreal's education, professional experience, personal interests and overwhelming sense of dedication make him a great asset to his students at Stonecliffe College Online.

“I am very student-centered in that I understand students' apprehensions. Many of my students have been out of school for a long time and I empathize with them because I was out of school for many years before I went to graduate school.” — Victor Villarreal, School of Business
Villarreal earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned a Master of Science degree in Organization and Management Leadership from Capella University and is currently in the dissertation phase of a Ph.D. program there. His primary research interests revolve around corporate ethics and corporate governance issues. Villarreal brings the knowledge he gains from his long hours of research to the virtual classroom in Principles of Business (MGM110) at Stonecliffe; he has also previously instructed at Colorado Technical University having taught, The Legal and Ethical Environment of Business (MGM 365) and Business Decision-Making (Statistics), (MGM 330).

As well his extensive education, Villarreal brings years of professional experience in the business world to his courses. He has held several professional administrative positions within the financial services and technology fields since 1995. He most recently served as both a Data Analyst and Senior Vendor Management Liaison at Olympus Servicing, a mortgage servicing company, administering Olympus' entire hazard insurance portfolio. His previous professional capacities include positions with several Fortune 500 organizations such as Northwestern Mutual Life, Bank One Texas, DirecTV, Inc. and the Dell Computer Corporation. Villarreal's impressive array of knowledge and experience can be very beneficial to students at Stonecliffe College Online.

Villarreal's greatest asset to students at Stonecliffe College Online, however, may be his dedication to teaching and his educational philosophy. "I am very student-centered in that I understand students' apprehensions. Many of my students have been out of school for a long time and I empathize with them because I was out of school for many years before I went to graduate school. I believe in motivating students to achieve success by encouraging them and giving them positive reinforcement as well as constructive criticism. I let them know that I am there for them one hundred percent of the time and am committed to giving them everything I have to offer in order to help them succeed." The success of his students makes educating very rewarding, "A student recently wrote me an original inspirational poem in appreciation for helping encourage her during the first couple of weeks of class. The poem made me feel very much appreciated and I am happy to report that the student performed very well in my class and is highly motivated to continue her studies!"

Villarreal believes in immersion methodology and wrote the curriculum for his Principles of Business course at Stonecliffe College Online based on that method. "I take a hands-on approach where I not only instruct students, but also facilitate the learning process. I believe in immersing students into interactive, scenario-based projects that are based on real-life situations they may see in their careers. Students can reflect on the theories and concepts they learn and combine that with their professional experience, as well as the professional experience and knowledge that I provide, to solve problems very similar to the ones they will see in today's work environment. The end result is better retention and the acquisition of practical skills."

When Villarreal is not glued to his monitor, attending to the needs of his students, he can be found serving his community in Leander, TX, a suburb of Austin—as 'Councilmember Villarreal', or perhaps at a Texas Longhorns game. "I am very active in my local community. I was recently elected as a City Councilman and I have previously served as: a Leander Planning and Zoning Commissioner, Vice Chairman of the Leander Charter Commission and as a Mayoral appointed Bond Task-Force member selecting city-wide project priorities through 2012. My goal is to attract an institution of higher learning to my community". Villarreal remains humbled and honored, "I have been bestowed a great deal of trust through the years, not only as an elected public official, but also as a college educator—I feel personal and professional pride fulfilling my duty to my students and my community". Villarreal is also an avid book collector hobbyist and college football fan, "...my alma matter, the Texas Longhorns, is my favorite college program!"

On his Stonecliffe faculty biography, Villarreal may say it best, "I look forward to making your Stonecliffe experience more than just a degree program, but a truly fulfilling learning experience!" Instructor Victor Villarreal, educator, public servant and dedicated husband; Stonecliffe College Online instructors are real people leading real lives, whose professional experience and dedication make them educators worthy of your consideration.
